Mary-Ann Woei-A-Sioe is a Ceramic Artist, born and raised in a multicultural family in Suriname, giving her the inspiration and freedom to explore between the cultures and create a sense of original art. With her background in Finance & Investments, she developed an eye for details, but also came to the realization that she needed an outlet to fulfill and fuel her creative passion. In 2015 she had a recurring vision to develop a sculpture that could be marketed. In search of the right materials to produce this item, she interviewed different artists who advised her to start working with the mixed modeling materials among which clay for sculpting. After taking pottery and sculpting classes for over two years at a local studio, she was encouraged to innovate and create her own style by developing abstract figurines and sculpting designs which are inspired by the female form and natural textures. Over the years her style has evolved from abstract family displays, functional designs, to textured wall pieces and bathing apparel to female forms and other organic shapes. Mary-Ann has exhibited her works at the National Fair Suriname (NK) in 2018 and 2019 and also showed her work at the Art House at the Heerenstraat Arts & Cultural Festival in 2019.
