Leila A.M. Nelson is a young artist who wants to share her art with the rest of the world. Her passion for art started at a very young age, even drawing on her grandmother’s walls with crayons and making mud sculptures in the backyard. The now 17-year-old artist likes to express a lot of her emotions while creating her artworks. She believes that every piece of art tells a story. At the age of 15, Leila joined the art school “G-artblok” of which the owner is a well-known Surinamese artist, George Struikelblok. Leila has learned a lot in the past 2 years and has even gotten the opportunity to exhibit her work at the National Art fair in 2019. She currently focuses on Realism and Semi-abstract. She mostly works with acrylic paint and occasionally works with oil paint. Leila hopes to inspire a lot of young artists in Suriname and to make people aware of the abundance of talent in this small but beautiful country. Her love for art grows more and more every day and seeing different pieces and styles inspires her and reminds her why she loves art so much.
